US Army Chorus Performs Famous Revolutionary Anthem at the White House

On February 22, 2025, the White House hosted the National Governors Association evening dinner in a glamorous event.
The United States Army Chorus was invited to perform, and their performance has left people stunned, baffled, exhilarated, and confused. Some wonder if President Trump or the White House staff were made aware of the Chorus’ song choice or not.
A conductor led the choreographed performance which is rapidly gaining views across social media platforms. The chorus filed into the ballroom as they sung until they were all in view and reached a crescendo. The camera operators panned across the chorus and then focused on two servicemembers walking through the tables as they sung “The time is now, the day is here.”
What is the significance of the songs they chose?
They sung one of the most recognizable songs from the French musical Les Misérables titled “Do you hear the people sing?” and a medley of several other songs including “One day more.”
Those are songs of revolution, in a musical set in 19th century France, during the Bourbon Restoration and the beginning of the July Monarchy. The song “Do you hear the people sing?” is sung twice in the musical; once, right before students launched a rebellion in the streets of Paris, and again in the finale with the entire cast singing each stanza louder than the one before it.
“Do you hear the people sing?” has been used in several protests worldwide, and recently has been used by social media content creators to demonstrate their frustrations with the United States government.
The significance of those songs is not light; it is the demonstration of loyalty to, and solidarity with, the citizens of the country rather than the government.
They entered the room singing “Do you hear the people sing”:
“Do you hear the people sing?
Lost in the valley of the night
It is the music of a people
Who are climbing to the light.
For the wretched of the Earth
There is a flame that never dies
Even the darkest night will end
And the sun will rise.
They will live again in freedom
In the garden of the Lord
They will walk behind the ploughshare
They will put away the sword.
The chain will be broken and all men will have their reward
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Do you hear the people sing?
Say, do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that they bring
When tomorrow comes!”
The chorus sang a medley and ended with lyrics from “One more day”:
“Tomorrow we’ll discover
What our God in Heaven has in store
One more dawn
One more day
One day more.”
