Black Students are Getting Texts Saying “You’ve been selected to be a slave” After Trump’s Victory

Black students in America are getting disturbing texts informing them that they will be a slave. The messages say that they have been “selected” to be either a “house slave” or to “pick cotton” at a plantation. They warn, “be ready” when Donald Trump takes office again. And they sometimes include “Make America Great Again.”

The senders of the messages did not adhere to a single script, some said they would pick up the “slaves” that day, the next week, and even the day after Trump is inaugurated in January.

Some messages instructed the students not to bring any sharp objects when they are rounded up by the slavers, and if they do, they will be whipped. Some also told them to “be prepared to be strip searched once you’ve entered the plantation.” These messages are deeply unsettling for black folk in America, given the history of slavery and the prison complex.

Police may not intervene if they see no reason to believe the messages are a direct threat to somebody’s life. To be clear, these messages should be taken as direct threats. Dismissing them could have grave consequences.

People have speculated that the messages were sent by hackers who found contact lists for black students, and in some cases the text was personalized with the student’s name, other times the message simply said, “Greetings Negro.”

One message sent to a student at the University of Alabama said, “Our Executive Slaves will come get you in a brown van,” which is reminiscent of how the Nazis would make certain prisoners, Jewish and non-Jewish, into the Kapo and Sonderkommando.

The Kapos were prisoners who functioned like the SS, they were assigned to supervise other prisoners as they labored, and they were allowed to dole out punishments with batons. The Sonderkommando, the special or elite units, were prisoners who labored in the gas chambers and crematoriums, assisting in the Nazi genocide under the threat of their own life.

Some believe these messages are jokes, others think they are foreshadowing for violence to erupt with the white supremacists. Trump’s campaign and supporters repeat fascist and racist dog whistles, and form extremist groups like the Proud Boys. Political rallies have become breeding grounds for racism and violence. People even feared violence would ensue at the polling stations across the country with Trump supporters preventing others from voting.

What is certain is that senders of these messages feel safe in expressing their blatant racism because presidential candidates endorse those sentiments. This is the current social climate in America, and while some may brush it off as silly pranks, others genuinely fear for their safety and wellbeing.

The senders have the contact information of black students across America, and if law enforcement does not intervene on behalf of the students, their lives could very well be in danger.

When the Nazis began chanting that they would drive out, eliminate, or dispose of people to keep Germany an Aryan nation, people made excuses for them as well. “It’s just what people say, they’re not actually going to enslave and kill people!”

This is peak racism, it is no longer hidden, the racists are fearless because they feel they can get away with it.

This is a new and developing story, more details about the text messages will come out.
