Delegates Walk Out as Netanyahu Declares Israel Must ‘Finish Job’

New York, September 26, 2025 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly was met with widespread protest today as over 100 diplomats from more than 50 countries staged a walkout in response to his remarks on the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
As Netanyahu took the stage, he declared that Israel must “finish the job” “finish the job” against Hamas, dismissing allegations of genocide and defending the military campaign as necessary to eliminate the group’s strongholds in Gaza City. He criticized recent recognitions of Palestinian statehood by countries including the UK, France, Canada, and Australia, labeling them as “insane” and accusing these nations of encouraging terrorism.
The walkout walkout, which included representatives from Arab, Muslim, and African nations, as well as several European states, stood in stark contrast to the previous day’s reception of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who received a warm welcome and applause from many in attendance.
During his speech, Netanyahu used a QR code to link to footage of the October 7 Hamas attacks and claimed that his message was broadcast in Gaza through hijacked phone broadcast in Gaza through hijacked phones, a claim not independently verified. He also issued an ultimatum to Hamas, demanding the release of all Israeli hostages held in Gaza or face continued Israeli pursuit.
The speech drew criticism for its emotional propaganda speech drew criticism for its emotional propaganda and for being delivered to a largely empty hall, with many delegates choosing to protest by leaving before Netanyahu began speaking. Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered outside the UN headquarters in New York, voicing their opposition to Israel’s actions in Gaza, where health officials report over 65,000 Palestinian deaths.
Netanyahu’s address underscores the deepening divisions within the international community over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and highlights the challenges facing global diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis.
